SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
San Juan is one of Americans Island with huge History on Atlantic coast and a lot of places to visit. You do not have to worry about internet because self service works perfectly even before you reach Island, if you are coming with a cruise ship like I did. Coming with cruise ship is the best because I saw old town from open sea and castle and beautiful shore. Some cruise ships actually have home port San Juan so you can fly there, stay few days and then board on the cruise ship and ship will take you from this stunning place to the other destination.
There are plenty things to do in San Juan such us:
-excursions from the ship or outside next to the terminal
-walking through city and do sightseeing
-chilling or have a picnic at the Fortress (Castillo San Cristobal)
-do shopping
Anyway, once I stepped out from the ship for the first time I was already prepared what I could see and where to go.Excursions are available on the street and they are very affordable and it depends what would you like to do and how many hours. Since I came here so many times I did four different excursions.
Puerto Rico favorites or hop on hop off tour is the first one I recommend. It was approximately two and half hours long. Small bus took me to the right side of the Island and we actually passed houses and buildings where people live. Moreover, when you pass the bridge you are on the other side of the Island where your first stop is government house. Next stop was the beach area and a lot of hotels and resorts. We stopped few minutes there to took some pictures and walk around and after that we went on old cemetery of San Juan where you have lighthouse and cemetery and huge picnic place to sit down and enjoy view and sounds of big waves . The name of the place is San Felipe del Morro Fortress.
Old San Juan historical tour is second excursion I did. Tour is approximately one and half of hour in a bus and you will enjoy the real view of history through the fascinating streets of Old San Juan. You will have opportunity to see cultural views such us : La Puerta de San Juan, El Paseo de La Princesa, La Fortaleza, Jardine’s del Morro and other.
Fortresses of old San Juan is third excursion I did and it is similar tour to second one but this tour is organized through three stops: Fort San Felipe Del Morro, Castillo de San Cristobal and Plaza Colon where is free time to buy souvenirs.
Rain-forest scenery and waterfalls is forth excursion I did and it is my favorite in San Juan. It is approximately five hours on the east side of the central Mountain range. It is only tropical rain-forest in the US. Name of this rain-forest is El Yunque National Rain-forest. We stopped briefly at the 100 feet waterfalls – Coca Waterfalls of volcanic rock, Yokahu Tower, the highest point 1575/ft where you can enjoy beautiful view of Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea unites and last stop in the Overlook Bridge where you can enjoy one of the eleven rivers located in rain-forest.
If you do not want to do some of the recommended excursion, you can always do walking through city and do sightseeing The road once took me on places with a lot of monuments and water fountains where I was so impressed because this town has too much to offer to see. Even though, they survived Harvey hurricane and still recovering from, city still look beautiful.
Sometimes is the best to listen your own intuitions and chose place you like to sit or walk on your own way because San Juan has so much to offer that would be a shame just not explore by yourself and have unique experience .
